Vegan lemon tart at CE Food Experience

In 2015, Cecilia Johnston started a bakery in a 300-square-foot kitchen at Park and Victoria streets Kitchener.

Success came quickly, and in January 2016 she relocated to Moore Avenue in Waterloo and 1,000 more square feet.

She honed her craft and defined her market, but she wasn’t ready to stop just yet: by February 2022, Johnston was leading the extensive renovations and build-out for her next move — this time into 2,800 square feet in Waterloo City Centre, next to City Hall.

With the Bakery by Ce Food Experience, she now seems content with the arc of her progression and success — and by the way, Johnston, who goes by the sobriquet “Ce,” isn’t yet 30 years old.

“This is as big as I want to get,” she says.
