Takeout seafood for Easter weekend
Fish and chips for Good Friday are a huge seller across Waterloo Region from just about every kind of restaurant — small take-away joints to upscale-casual dining. It seems everyone loves crispy fish and chips.
But, as spring rolls in (however slowly, given today’s April 1 temperatures), restaurants have other fish dishes to try.
Here are three choices for you to consider as the weekend is upon us (please check with individual venues for hours of opening and pandemic lockdown-protocols).
*****
Bouillabaisse, Elixir Bistro Galt Cambridge
A favourite dish of chef and co-owner Pirooz Jarfari, he combines braised monk fish, Pacific snapper and a selection of seafood that swims happily in a seafood broth with tomato, fennel, potatoes and the headiness of saffron.
“Nems” appetizer trio, Loloan Lobby Bar Waterloo
Try a trio of “nems:” tempura catfish and minced pork ball, cold crab fresh roll, and a cold-smoked sushi tuna, som tom with a trio of sauces.
Seafood pasta, Casa Rugantino Kitchener
Located in Belmont Village, Casa Rugantino prepares a lobster tail, shrimp, scallops and mussels and nestles them in a light tomato cream-white wine sauce over linguette pasta.
