Hefty sandwiches in Uptown Waterloo
Sandwiches are oddities: everybody makes the ubiquitous meal or snack at home, but it seems to me that they always taste better when you munch them from a restaurant.
That is certainly the case with the hefty, solidly packed submarine sandwiches that are front and centre at Harper’s Deli in Uptown Waterloo.
The pandemic re-routed many restaurant business models – prompting and inspiring operators to find new pathways for serving their customers – and that, in part, explains the appearance of the daytime pop-up sandwich shop.
Harper’s Deli, the brainchild of long-time area chef James Frangos (and named for his daughter), has assembled sandwiches at Babylon Sisters Monday to Friday since January while he prepares the wine bar for its Wednesday to Sunday late-afternoon hours.
