Khmer dishes in Guelph: Taste with Andy

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Visit 45 Cork St. E. in Guelph for a taste with Andy and experience Chan Thon “Andy” Phoung’s culinary credo: how you cook is more important than what you cook.

Having opened the Taste With Andy restaurant in late 2020, Phoung’s Vietnamese, Thai and Khmer, or Cambodian, dishes are inspired by his mother’s home cooking.

“My goal is to make the best dishes I can and bring my mom’s Cambodian food to the community,” says Phoung.

I’d say he’s accomplishing that goal.

Cambodia is located in the southern Indochina Peninsula, sharing borders with Vietnam, Laos and Thailand; “Khmer” refers to the Cambodian language and the ethnolinguistic group making up most of Cambodia’s 17 million people.

I eat dishes from these countries regularly and I’ll state without hesitation that they cook some of the best food in the world.
