Goat Fest: hot sauce expo September 23
After his Original Goat hot sauce appeared on the popular YouTube show Hot Ones in May 2021, entrepreneur Kris Ronan saw significantly increased sales of the product in his Conestogo-based Ginger Goat lineup.
A venture coach and gig marketplace manager in the Entrepreneurship Collective at Conestoga College, Ronan said that the recognition inspired him to organize the inaugural Goat Fest — a hot sauce expo at Bingemans set to run Sept. 23.
Ronan says there has been “an awakening” among consumers when it comes to a condiment that has always had craft hot sauce producers, and he wants to introduce Waterloo region to the many hot sauce companies located here.
“We’re now seeing what I call critical mass within the general public, and with that we’re starting to see people celebrate the flavours much like they did with craft beer years ago. There’s nothing wrong with generic hot sauces, but craft-makers are bringing big flavours and big heat, and a lot of fun, to what it is they’re doing,” he says.
