Monigram for coffee and a cookie

Galt is being transformed: shops, restaurants including a taco and tequila bar, loft living space, an artisans’ collective and restorations to buildings in the historic and architecturally significant “granite block.”

A decade ago, Monigram Coffee Roasters helped start the evolution. Since 2012, the coffee roaster and café has been in the revitalization vanguard when it refurbished an old feed-and-grain building and set up shop in a back parking lot.

The Monigram decision was clearly inspired — and continues to be.

“This is the busiest parking lot in the core now,” says Monica Braun, who owns and operates Monigram with her partner, Graham Braun. (Monigram is a combination of their names — Monica and Graham.)

The original space was only about 10 tables, but a renovation and expansion has them comfortably in 4,600 square feet with 20 tables amid exposed brick-and-beam history.
