Calling all artists!” That’s the clarion from Waterloo Region’s tourism folks.

In its work, the Waterloo Regional Tourism Management Corporation (WRTMC) — more familiarly known as Explore Waterloo Region — has always been focussed on local and community but perhaps much more so at this time in our history.

One of their latest projects is an artistic one linked to our food, beverage and hospitality industry.

They are looking for local artists to participate in the “Art Fresco” public art project to transform picnic tables with paint and creative ingenuity.

“Masterpieces will be placed on patios throughout the region ready to welcome you for your al fresco dining,” according to Explore Waterloo Region.

It’s a tour of a series of unique picnic tables transformed through the creativity of talented artisans. Art Fresco picnic tables will be displayed in prominent locations throughout Waterloo Region over the summer and temperate autumn season, culminating in an art auction.

Art Fresco is open to all eligible artists. Applications are due by June 15.

Final selection of artists will be at the discretion of the Selection Committee, comprised of volunteer members of the local community, artists and arts professionals.

Artists will each receive a $350 honorarium, per table designed.

Art Fresco is about celebrating the region and its tourism attractions as well as the communities and people that make this a great place to live — and dine al fresco.
