“Spring into Spice” event in Toronto
This sounds delicious and is a unique event as we step into the nicest of spring weather: “Spring into Spice Outdoor Food and Wine Festival” is an ethnic food and wine festival.
Sommelier and event creator Beverly Crandon — who grew up in Kitchener and attended Resurrection High School — says the project is a unique one.
“Actually, this is Canada’s first ethnic food and wine festival,” according to Crandon, who is based in Toronto.
“Festival attendees will be able to explore 30 food and wine exhibitors covering regions such as the Caribbean, India and South America,” she adds.
The event is May 28, and tickets are available here.
Crandon, a trained sommelier, has been educating winers-and-diners about the possibilities of pairing Caribbean-style foods — such as curries — with wines: that’s something that, traditionally, has been ignored and under-valued, according to Crandon.
An authoritative voice educating people about the potential of this lesser-known type of pairing, Crandon is dedicated to sharing the flavours and the cultural and historic aspects of the growing range of Caribbean foods that can be increasingly found in our communities and pairing them with wine.
It represents, in part, the work she does in the exploration and “archaeology” of this interesting and delicious topic.
“Spring into Spice,” therefore, is an entrée into this facet of the culinary landscape whose time has come, she states.
“‘Spring into Spice’ is guaranteed to be a fun day of education, music, food and wine.”
