Welly Bootique Mixer
It’s available at the LCBO and, of course, at the brewery: the newest delicious release of Wellington Brewery beers. The Bootique includes a few special and interesting flavours.
Spice Odyssey (7% ABV) is a chai-latte stout that has all of those great fall spices; you know, the cardamoms, gingers and cloves? Really warming. It has a malty body and a nice creaminess.
Here’s the key with the SO: $0.25 from sales goes to the Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis organization.
Fine Italian Pilsner (5.5%) is, like pilsners are wont to be, crisp and clean. It’s dry-hopped with Hallertau Mittelfruh hops and was lagered for about five weeks.
Shubie — Sour Raspberry IPA (6.9%) is quite the pink colour from raspberries but still retains a tartness. That’s important for me.
Duck Dive Blackberry Chai IPA (6.9%) is from Welly’s “surfer series” of IPAs. It’s nicely hazy with blackberry and chai, but not too much of the latter. It gets some balance from the citrussy hops.
I also want to note that Wellington is celebrating 36 years of brewing goodness: to that end, they’ve put out Wellington ’36 Triple IPA (10.2%). It’s big and bold (the Welly guys call it “massive”) with Mosaic and Simcoe hops, with a pleasant maltiness, some pine and nicely tart citrus elements.
Remember too that Wellington has a line of sparkling hop water, should you so desire: no calories, no carbs, no alcohol. With Cascade and Chinook hops, there’s refreshing taste and some bright citrussy and gentle grapefruit notes.
Here’s to Welly! And 36 more years!
